SOM Student Scholarships and Awards Breakfast

When: Thursday, May 14, 2009, 9:30am to 11:30am
Where: The M & T Pavilion of the Hippodrome
What Happens? The students receiving scholarships or departmental awards will be recognized at this ceremony. Only those students receiving scholarships or awards and their guests are invited to attend and will be notified by mid-April.

Humanism Luncheon

When: Noon, Thursday, May 14th, 2009
Where: Lucy’s Restaurant, 21 North Eutaw Street, Baltimore, MD.
What Happens? Students are inducted into the Humanism Honor Society and student members and faculty speakers give remarks.

University of Maryland Baltimore Commencement

When: 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday, May 21, 2010
Where: 1st Mariner Arena located at Baltimore and Howard Streets. Students must be in line by  2:30 p.m.
What Happens? Conferring of honorary degrees, conferring of degrees of graduates, remarks from an invited commencement speaker, student remarks, and presentation of diplomas to graduates. Students receive a blank piece of paper upon procession to the stage, but official diplomas are available to be picked up immediately following the ceremony. Alternatively, students may pick up their diplomas at the Registrar’s Office for one week following graduation. After that time, they may be mailed to students.
Parking: All around the area, but it will be a busy time, so leave plenty of time to find parking.
Facilities for the Handicapped: Contact the 1st Mariner Arena (410) 347-2000 about handicap parking and special seating in the arena.
Tickets: None are necessary. The ceremony is open to all. UMB does provide some generic announcements which state, that the UMB Campus is having a graduation ceremony at the Baltimore, Arena on Friday, May 21, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. You may pick them up in the OSA beginning mid-April. Some students in the past have purchased more personal yet inexpensive announcements off campus or from the bookstore.
