Description and Goals:

The goal of the elective is to offer the student a diverse clinical experience in Allergy and Pulmonary Medicine. The student will attend clinics four-five days/week devoted primarily to allergic rhinitis, food allergy, asthma, and other chronic lung disorders in children (bronchopulmonary dysplasia, recurrent pneumonia, chronic cough, apnea/bradycardia, obstructive sleep apnea, chronic respiratory insufficiency). Children undergoing evaluations for congenital immune deficiencies are also seen in the Allergy Practice. Students will participate in Inpatient consults and rounds in both Allergy and Pulmonology. Locations include: Pediatric Subspecialty Clinic, 2 offsite clinics in Belair and Glen Burnie, MD, and the Breathmobile (a mobile asthma clinic that provides specialty services at various Baltimore City School locations). The remainder of the time can be spent in guided literature review pertinent to cases evaluated during the elective.
