Health Care for the Homeless, Inc. (HCH) is a freestanding, outpatient health care facility that provides primary medical care, entitlements assistance, mental health, addiction and dental services to homeless individuals and families in the Baltimore area. In February 2010, the organization relocated to a new and larger facility, which has allowed provision of expanded services to one of the city’s most vulnerable populations. Interested students will be afforded the opportunity to rotate at HCH and learn about a unique model of care provision for the underserved in Baltimore City.

Our Goals and Objectives are:

To provide an opportunity to work alongside dedicated clinicians who care for the underserved as a full time career. Students will be provided with an overview of the broad range of barriers faced by different populations of our society in accessing health care (persons experiencing homelessness, persons with mental illness, individuals and families at risk for homelessness). Students will also be exposed to specific examples of how health care delivery may be modified through organized outreach activities (including a variety of local shelters, soup kitchens, day programs, as well as Street Medicine and home visits) in order to better meet the needs of the targeted community.
