Pediatric Immunology/HIV/Rheumatology - PEDI 552

Description and Goals:

This elective offers the student the opportunity for concentrated clinical experience and guided review of the literature in one of two areas of clinical emphasis:

  • Pediatric/adolescent HIV and Rheumatology Emphasis: Attend pediatric and adolescent/young adult HIV and exposed infant outpatient clinics at University of Maryland and pediatric rheumatology clinic at University and at private offices of pediatric/adult rheumatologists.  Students are required to complete and orally present a thorough literature review and assessment on a focused clinical issue to be identified in consultation with the course faculty. 
  • Pediatric, Adolescent, and Adult HIV Emphasis: Attend outpatient pediatric HIV, HIV-exposed infant and adult HIV clinics at the University of Maryland.  Students are required to complete and orally present a thorough literature review and assessment on a focused clinical issue to be identified in consultation with the course faculty.

Additional Information:

Students must contact Dr. Watson at least 2 months in advance of the course start date. Prior approval from Dr. Watson required for new registration within 2 months of start date.
