Description and Goals:

The Division of Nephrology of UMMC Midtown Campus is organized as a diagnostic unit for renal disease with facilities for treatment of acute and chronic renal failure. This elective exposes students to the practice of clinical nephrology and to the management of acute and chronic renal failure. Participants in this program become familiar with the diagnostic approach to hypertension, renal disease, renal function testing, the urinary sediment, and the treatment of renal diseases and hypertension. Experience is gained in the treatment of terminal renal failure including peritoneal dialysis and hemodialysis.
