Karen Volpini, AA

Research Analyst

karen VolpiniMs. Volpini joined the Study Center in 2003. Karen came to us with 24 years of epidemiologic research computing experience at the School of Medicine, where she supervised the operations of a research data management unit. She has worked on numerous research projects regarding such topics as AIDS, asthma, acupuncture, epidemiology of aging, reproductive health, smoking cessation and infant mortality.

Karen received her AA degree in Computer Science from Essex Community College. She is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science at the University of Maryland University College.

Her duties include SAS programming and Access Database Development. She is currently working on the following studies:  Alcohol Use and Dependence in Trauma Patients, A Comprehensive Surveillance of Occupational Injury in Maryland, Evaluation of Motorcycle Safety Materials: An Intervention Trial to Increase Motorcycle Licensure Rates, and the Brain Acoustic Monitor Protocol Project. She represents the National Study Center at the Pediatric Quality Improvement Committee meetings and the Shock Trauma Prevention Committee meetings.
