Research Statistician

Joseph KuferaJoseph A. Kufera, M.A., has provided analytical support as a statistician for the National Study Center for Trauma and EMS since 1993.  He received his master's degree in statistics from the Pennsylvania State University in 1987.  With a strong interest in the field of injury epidemiology, Mr. Kufera has provided support for study proposals, abstracts and publications regarding topics such as lower extremity injuries among car crash victims, traumatic brain injury among motorcyclists, alcohol/drug abuse, and sexual assault. 

Mr. Kufera has been an active member of the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center Research Committee since 2000.  Widely published, he has presented findings at many scientific conferences, including the 2004 World Congress on Injury in Vienna, Austria; at that meeting he presented a poster regarding predictors of return to work following car crash injury.  

Mr. Kufera is also author of a recent publication, accepted for presentation at the upcoming meeting of the Association for Advancement of Automotive Medicine, addressing the relationship between crash culpability and driver blood alcohol levels.
