Nafeesa Jawed, MdDr. Nafeesa Jawed is a clinical research associate who screens patients to identify potential participants in research.  At present, she is working with the DOT/NHTSA-funded Crash Injury Research and Engineering Network (CIREN) team associated with the Shock Trauma Center to collect data on injuries resulting from motor vehicle crashes.

As a part of this project, Dr. Jawed reviews the daily admissions to the Shock Trauma Center to determine the eligibility for the study of the patients who have been brought to the Shock Trauma Center as the result of injuries sustained in a car crash. She is responsible for reviewing medical records and crash-related autopsy reports from the medical examiner’s office, abstracting pertinent data, and entering the medical and clinical variables into the database. 

Dr. Jawed is also responsible for screening and identifying potential participants in research with work-related injuries who have been admitted to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, as part of a study to determine the circumstances of injury, and contributing factors, including the type of work, safety equipment use, safety training, and any unique hazards.  Another project in which she was involved was a clinical trial of a blood substitute hemoglobin-based oxygen carrier.

She is a co-author of many papers on motor vehicle crashes, and her most recent paper published in 2004 focuses on consequences and costs of lower extremity injuries in motor vehicle crashes.  Nafeesa Jawed earned her Doctor of Medicine degree at the Nawabshah Medical Collage, Pakistan. She also received her Master's degree in Emergency Health Services (Epidemiology and Public Health Track) at the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
