Melvin Alexander, MSPH
Research Statistician
Melvin Alexander brings 24 years of experience to the NSC. He has consulted on the use of statistical approaches to quality control in such industries as electronics manufacturing, information technology, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and health care.
Mel received his Master’s degree in biostatistics from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and teaches quality control, applied industrial statistics, and reliability courses at the Catonsville and Hunt Valley campuses of the Community College of Baltimore County and the Baltimore Section of the American Society for Quality (ASQ).
He also is a member of the American Statistical Association (ASA), a Fellow, Certified Quality Engineer, and Past Chair of the Health Care Division of the ASQ. He has served on one of the writing groups that published the first International Organization for Standardization (ISO) guideline (IWA 1:2001) for implementing a quality management system for Healthcare under the ISO9000 Quality Standard, 2000 revision. He also served as an examiner for 2004 U.S. Senate Productivity and Maryland Quality Awards program.
