With a Specialization in Research Ethics
The Middle East Research Ethics Training Initiative (MERETI) now offers a Masters of Science in Clinical Research with a Specialization in Research Ethics (36 credits). This dual combination recognizes the importance of training for academics in both research methodology and research ethics. This new Master’s degree will give professionals the necessary skills to become experts in the ethical review of research protocols, as well as the skills necessary to write and submit grants of their own to important funding agencies.
This Master’s training will use a combination of on-site courses and on-line (distance learning) courses that will minimize the time needed to be at the University of Maryland campus.
Flexible Degree Pathways
The Master's Program is designed to be completed as a full-time or as a part-time student, with various semesters either as face-to-face or as online, as indicated below:
Full-time, completed in 14 months: Summer (face-to-face), Fall (online), Spring (face-to-face), and Summer (face-to-face).
Part-time, completed in two years: Summer (face-to-face), Fall (online), Spring (online), Summer (face-to-face), Fall (online), and Spring (online).

Open To: Individuals involved with research (physicians, nurses, research coordinators, members of research ethics committee) who are not more than 10 years from their master's degree in their primary specialty.
Funding
Several full scholarships are available on a competitive basis to cover tuition fees, living expenses, housing and airfare. We also accept self-funded applicants.
Admission Requirements
Applicants need to complete the University of Maryland, Baltimore's graduate school application for admission. The application requires the submission of an online application. More information on this process can be found at: http://graduate.umaryland.edu/admissions/instructions.html.
In addition to completing the on-line application, you must provide the following required items as part of your application for admission:
- 3 letters of recommendation
- PDF Version
- On-line Version – Applicants must copy this URL http://cf.umaryland.edu/graduate/letter_of_recommendation/ and paste it into a message requesting the recommenders to complete the on-line form as instructed
- One (1) set of official transcripts or marks sheets from all prior colleges/universities
- Official standardized score reports (GRE, TOEFL/IELTS; use institution code #5848 for GRE & TOEFL)

Application fees (if not paid on-line), official transcript/mark sheets, and official test score reports must be mailed directly to the Graduate School.
PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:
Applicants whose native language or language of the home is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
The Graduate School normally requires Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) scores for admission to graduate programs and uses GRE scores as part of the data on which it bases its admission decisions. The scores, however, are never the sole criteria for admission.
Applicants applying for the Masters in Clinical Research Track should select GPLS-PREV-MS at the indicated places in the online application form.
