A Twelve-Month Program

  • Two-Month U.S. Program

    Academic study for two months during June/July at the University of Maryland in Baltimore, USA that includes:

    • Graduate level course work:
      • Ethical Issues in Clinical Research (3 Credits)
      • Ethical Issues in International Research Ethics (3 Credits)
      • Functional Aspects of Research Ethics Committees (2 Credits)
      • Ethical Theory (2 Credits)
      • Ethics of Clinical Trials (2 Credits)
    • Practical experiences in the ethical review of research protocols
    • Observation of research ethics committee meetings

    2007 Certificate Academic Syllabus (MS Word)
  • Ten-Month In-Country Program

    • Performance of a project in research ethics in trainee's home country

    • Online training


Registration Fees: $2,000 U.S. Dollars

Funding

Full scholarships are available (on a competitive basis) to fund travel, living expenses, and fees, but are limited. We will accept self-funded applicants and those who obtain funding from their institutions or external sponsors.

Who May Apply

This program is targeted at individuals who are actively engaged in health research or the ethical review of health research. This program is open to physicians, nurses, scientists, members of research ethics committees, pharmacists, philosophers, and other individuals with appropriate backgrounds and interests in health research or ethics.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree (MD, MPH, PhD, JD) in medicine, nursing, pharmacy, law, philosophy, etc.

  • Submit two letters of reference, one from a high institutional official endorsing the performance of teaching activities and projects in research ethics at the applicant’s institution.

  • Proficiency in English.

  • J-1 Visa to the USA.
