Senior Cardiologist/VA Cardiology Section Chief (3-309-1175)

The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the University of Maryland, School of Medicine is recruiting a senior cardiologist to serve as the Chief of Cardiology at the VAMHCS. Primary responsibilities will be clinical, with expertise in cardiology, echocardiography, and advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology.

The University of Maryland School of Medicine maintains an active affiliation with the VA Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS) which is located next to the University of Maryland Medical Center in downtown Baltimore, MD. This position is .125 FTE geographic full-time at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and will serve at a .875 FTE as the Chief of Cardiology at the VAMHCS.  Expected faculty rank for this position will be Associate Professor or higher, however, final rank, tenure status and salary will be commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.

We seek a board-certified cardiologist with proficiency in running an echocardiography program, including TEE and stress echo, and has experience in treating advanced heart failure and transplant patients.  These procedures will be performed at the University of Maryland Medical Center, its affiliate medical centers and the Baltimore VA Medical Center. The majority of the cardiac services will be performed at the Baltimore VA Medical Center (VAMC). The VA Cardiology section provides outpatient care for patients with a wide variety of cardiovascular conditions at the BT and PP VAMC and inpatient care in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and the Acute Medicine service at the Baltimore VA Medical Center. There is an active electrophysiology program including device implantation and monitoring, cardiac catheterization laboratory including interventional cardiology, pulmonary hypertension and congestive heart failure clinics and an active echocardiography program at both BT and PP VAMCs.

This position requires a MD degree from a recognized accredited university (or foreign equivalent) and board certification in cardiovascular medicine, interventional cardiology, echocardiography, and advanced heart failure cardiology.  Candidates must also be eligible for an unrestricted Maryland medical license.  Additionally, because this position is funded (in part) by the VA Medical Center, all applicants must be US citizens.

Clinical Cardiologist (3-309-1162/1163/1164)

The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting a general cardiologist to teach and provide clinical cardiology services in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.  The ideal candidate will be expected to participate in all aspects of the general cardiology programs at the University of Maryland Medical Center (downtown and midtown campuses) and other ambulatory sites.  Expected faculty rank is Assistant Professor or higher on a clinician-educator track, however, final rank, tenure status, and salary will be commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications and experience.  We offer competitive salary and benefits.

Cardiovascular Medicine Physician-Scientist (3-309-1160)

The Cardiovascular Medicine Division of the Department of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting for a senior physician-scientist.  Expected rank will be Associate Professor or Professor, however, final rank, tenure status and salary will be commensurate with experience. 

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the research, teaching and/or clinical missions of the University, will sustain an externally funded individual research program consistent with the Department and School of Medicine's vision, assist in the recruitment of funded investigators, and enhance cardiology research opportunities for the division.  Ample time will be protected for research. 

Successful applicants will be accomplished investigators in translational or basic science with a focus on laboratory-based research in the areas of heart failure/transplant, pulmonary hypertension, imaging, genomics, vascular biology, complex dysrhythmias or regenerative medicine.
