Clinical Care: The Division of Nephrology maintains active clinical programs at both the University of Maryland Medical Center, the Baltimore VA Medical Center, and the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center. Our faculty has expertise in all facets of kidney disease including management of acute and chronic kidney disease, dialysis management, genetic kidney disease, glomerulonephritis, complicated hypertension management and electrolyte and acid base disorders. Our division participates in a large multi organ transplant program with services at both at the University of Maryland Medical Center and the VA.

Research: Our faculty is dedicated to understanding the basic biology of the kidney and to translating our discoveries to new therapeutic strategies. The division and our close collaborators in physiology and in the Division of Transplantation focus on several aspects of renal biology including Cystic Kidney Diseases, Molecular Physiology of Hypertension, Tubular Transport mechanisms and Transplant immunology. The Division is home to several research Centers including The Baltimore Polycystic Kidney Disease Research and Clinical Core Center, The Laboratory of Molecular Physiology, the Early Renal Insufficiency Program, the Safe Kidney Care Program, and the Transplant Clinical Research Center.


Fellowship Training Program: Our fellowship program is geared toward training outstanding renal physicians who will devote their careers to patient care or academic nephrology. We provide outstanding and comprehensive training in all aspects of clinical nephrology. In addition to a two-year standard fellowship program we offer a three year research track with opportunities for both laboratory and clinical investigation.

Open Faculty Positions

03-309-756 - Associate Professor/ Professor 

The Nephrology Division in the Department of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting one physician-scientist for a tenure track faculty appointment at the Associate/Professor level. The successful candidate will be an accomplished investigator in translational or basic science who focus on laboratory based research in the areas of renal inflammation, genomics, structural or vascular, epithelial biology or transport.  They will be expected to contribute to the research, teaching and clinical missions of the University and will have a proven record of research excellence, productivity and funding.  Ample time will be protected for research, and the positions come with attractive packages to foster the development and growth of a robust research program.

The Nephrology Division in the Department of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting for non-tenure track faculty for our expanding clinical programs on our nephrology, transplant and dialysis services.  In addition to inpatient and outpatient clinical service, candidates will also be expected to develop a focused basic and/or clinical research program.  Successful candidates must be board certified/board eligible in Internal Medicine and Nephrology.  Excellent clinical and teaching skills are also required as instruction of medical residents and fellows is integral to our clinical programs.
