Geographic Medicine Open Faculty Positions

Research Associate – Network Coordinator (Position #03-309-554).  The University of Maryland, Center for Vaccine Development’s Malaria Section is seeking a seasoned program management professional with experience in coordinating multi-country health-related projects to coordinate a network supporting surveillance of emerging drug resistant malaria in Southeast Asia. This USAID-funded project will establish a network of quality-assured laboratories to track the emergence of malaria drug resistance across the Greater Mekong Subregion (Burma, China, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and Vietnam) and guide containment efforts.

The Network Coordinator is primarily responsible for facilitating senior level policy and technical dialogue with National Malaria Control Programs, Ministries of Health, and international partners. The Coordinator will supervise a team based at Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand and will assist the Maryland-based Program Director and Maryland- and Bangkok-based project staff and consultants in the design and development of project work plans. She/he will be responsible for the timely execution of project deliverables and submission of reports. The Network Coordinator is expected to work collaboratively with local, regional and international partners including the World Health Organization, Worldwide Antimalarial Resistance Network (WWARN), regional scientists, and other partners. The position and network team will be based at the WWARN Southeast Asian Regional Office at the Faculty of Medicine / Mahidol University in Bangkok, Thailand, with travel to participating countries in the region as well as to scientific and policy meetings in the U.S., Switzerland and elsewhere. If qualified, the Network Coordinator may hold a primary faculty appointment at the University of Maryland School of Medicine with secondary appointment at the Mahidol University Faculty of Tropical Medicine.
