Division of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine

Division Head: Jeffrey D. Hasday, MD 

The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine is focused on cutting-edge research into the causes and treatments of diseases of the airway and lungs such as asthma and COPD.

That research is implemented at the University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC), giving hope and often improved outcomes to critically ill patients, such as those in the Lung Transplant Program.

The division is also the home of the Liggett Lab for Cardiopulmonary Genomics (above), which recently made headlines for its discovery of a genetic variation that can predict how well patients will respond to heart medications. In addition, our division houses the Mucosal Biology Research Center, a state-of-the-art research effort that brings together basic and clinical investigators in pulmonary and gastrointestinal diseases. We also oversee a Sleep Disorders Center, which offers treatment for a variety of sleep problems, including narcolepsy and sleep apnea.

Open Faculty Positions

Pulmonary and Critical Care Physician - (Position number 03-309-620):

As part of our faculty expansion, the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Maryland seeks a BE/BC pulmonary and critical care physician with strong clinical, teaching and research skills to participate in our pulmonary rehabilitation and ventilator weaning programs, cover daytime and weekend shifts in our state of the art MICU at the University of Maryland Medical Center, and participate in our Pulmonary Consult and Critical Care Consult services.    
 

Transplant Pulmonologist - (Position number 03-309-658):

The Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine seeks a BE/BC pulmonary and critical care physician with strong clinical, teaching and research skills for a transplant pulmonologist position at the Assistant/Associate Professor level to join the Division and the growing University of Maryland Lung Transplantation Program.
