RTC Waiver Program Research and Evaluation: Study 7
Psychotropic Monitoring for Youth in Child Welfare
Psychotropic medication use is disproportionately high among adolescents who are disruptive, aggressive, or otherwise dangerous to society or themselves. When these youth cannot be maintained safely within the community or at home they are often times placed in residential treatment centers (RTC). Programmatic efforts aimed at optimizing rational psychotropic treatment to manage and prevent such behavior could potentially divert these youth from placement in RTC. The goal of the proposed work is to examine community practice patterns in relation to established evidence-based treatment and use this information as a way to enhance outreach to non-physician mental health clinicians on optimal psychotropic management as a way to promote RTC diversion.
