MD CARES Evaluation
Description
This study is sponsored by a Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) System of Care grant. This six year grant is the next step in Maryland's Mental Health Transformation process. The funding is designed to assist Maryland in improving the mental health outcomes of children, youth, and families receiving services from or at risk of entering the State's child welfare system. The national evaluation instruments will be used to improve service systems by examining several domains of performance: children’s access to comprehensive mental health services, the linguistic and cultural competency of service providers, an examination of the effectiveness of these services in providing stability for children as measured through the level of penetration into the child welfare system, and the overall cost of care (for both mental health services and child welfare services) for children enrolled in the MD CARES Systems of Care project.
Purpose
MD CARES will cement a partnership within mental health and child welfare to better serve this high risk population with family-driven, evidence-based practices. Service dollars under this cooperative agreement are targeted in neighborhoods in Baltimore City.
