Travel Abroad FAQ

1)  Does UMB have funding for global health work?

Yes.  Through the UMB Global Health Resource Center, UMB students and faculty are eligible to apply for "Global Health Travel Fellowship Awards" supporting international travel expenses related to hands-on public health practice or research experience overseas.  See UMB Travel Award Guidelines for more details.

2)  What are the steps for UMB students to apply for the Global Health Travel Fellowship Award?

First, students must identify a topic and activity that is eligible for support, e.g. student initated research or servce project, participation in established projects that have specific outputs and policy related work with an international organization or agency.  These activities must focus on the health of populations at the community, national or international level.  Clinical rotations or attendance of conferences abroad are not eligible for this award.

The next step is to submit a letter of intent the the Global Health Multidisciplinary Research Committee (GHMRC), and upon acceptance of this letter, students will be selected and invited to submit a full proposal.  Click here for more information on proposal writing.  Also, see UMB Travel Award Guidelines for more details on the application process.

3)  What are some other field opportunities for UMB students interested in global health internships and work experience?

The University Coalitions for Global Health (UCGH) created the list of websites below for information on fellowships, internships and volunteering abroad:
