Research Interests
Dr. Laufer is a pediatric infectious disease specialist, with a primary research interest in malaria. She currently conducts clinical trials in Malawi focusing on the epidemiology of drug-resistant malaria, with the goal of understanding how resistance emerges and of developing strategies to deter it. Dr. Laufer is also interested in the interaction between HIV and malaria, infections that coexist in much of sub-Saharan Africa. In the past, Dr. Laufer directed a pediatric training program in Laos, and she continues to volunteer her time to train Lao physicians.
