Amanda Higgs serves as Senior Genetic Counselor and Instructor in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences. She is a graduate of the University of Maryland Masters in Genetic Counseling Training Program and she has been with the Department since 2002. Ms. Higgs counsels patients for a variety of indications, including but not limited to advanced maternal age, family history issues, abnormal screening results and teratogen exposure. She is a member of the Fetal Heart Program. In addition to the genetics of congenital heart disease, her special interests include biomedical ethics and medication use in pregnancy. Ms. Higgs participates in the education of genetic counseling students, medical students and residents by providing various genetics-related lectures and clinical supervision.
