Personal History

Adeleke Ogunmefun, MBBS, is a clinical assistant professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He joined the faculty of the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 2003. He is board certified in both general psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry.

He obtained his medical degree from the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Nigeria. He completed his postgraduate and residency training at the University of Maryland and Sheppard Pratt Psychiatry Residency Program. He then completed a fellowship and sub-speciality training in geriatric psychiatry at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Dr. Ogunmefun is a consulting geriatric psychiatrist at various area nursing homes and assisted living facilities where he manages many patients with moderate to advanced dementia. In addition, he is attending psychiatrist at Spring Grove Hospital Center in Catonsville, MD.

Dr. Ogunmefun comes from a family of teachers and devotes time to teaching medical students, residents and geriatric fellows, in addition to his clinical work. He has given numerous lectures and presentations on dementia, cognitive impairment, depression, geriatric psychiatry and current medications used in psychiatry. Dr. Ogunmefun has also delivered presentations to policy makers and legislators.
