Personal History

Dr. Pellegrini previously served as the chairman of the Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation at the Pennsylvania State University, College of Medicine, and the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, where he was also the C. McCollister Evarts Professor of Orthopaedics.

He received his medical degree from the Dartmouth Medical School and completed his general surgery residency at Hartford Hospital. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was chief resident and part of the limb replantation team. Dr. Pellegrini also completed a fellowship in surgery of the hand and upper extremity at the University of Rochester and the Mayo Clinic.

He has published many articles, lectured at professional meetings nationally and internationally and is the recipient of numerous honors and awards. In addition to serving on the editorial review board and consultant to several journals, Dr. Pellegrini is currently the editor in chief of "Current Opinion in Orthopaedics" and a member of the board of associate editors for the "Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery."

Thromboembolic disease, the control of heterotopic ossification, osteonecrosis and causative factors in osteoarthritis

Adult reconstructive/joint replacement surgery of the hip and knee and hand/upper extremity surgery
