Clinical Speciality
In addition to his research, Dr. Blumenthal is active in the clinical and educational missions of the Division and the GRECC. He led the Baltimore pilot site and now serves as the medical center physician champion for the national VA MOVE! (Managing Overweight and Obesity in Veterans Everywhere) Program. Leading this Clinical Demonstration Project, he examines functional outcomes and cardiovascular, genetic and molecular mechanisms to translate them into clinical practice. Dr. Blumenthal teaches the Introduction to Clinical Medicine for first year medical students, is the faculty director for the Geriatrics Interest Group made up of students across the six health professional schools of the University of Maryland, and is medical attending in the geriatrics clinic and on the Medical Service at the VAMC where he precepts and teaches medical students, housestaff and fellows in internal medicine and geriatrics.
