Personal History
Chris L. Wells, PT, PhD, CCS, ATC is a Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science. Dr. Wells graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Health, Physical Education & Athletic Training from West Chester University in 1985 and a Bachelors of Science in Physical Therapy from Stockton State College in 1991. She earned Masters in Physical Therapy in 1994 and was awarded a Doctor of Philosophy in Education, Department of Developmental Movement from the University of Pittsburgh in 2002. Dr. Wells' primary teaching responsibilities within the curriculum is in the areas of cardiopulmonary dysfunction and wellness across the life span, acute care practice, and facilitation techniques such as PNF. Beyond her faculty responsibilities at the University, Dr. Wells also serves as a Clinical Cardiopulmonary Specialist in the Department of Rehabilitation Services at the University of Maryland Medical System where she primarily delivers patient care in the intensive care setting and assist with program and staff development. Professionally, she is an active member within the Cardiopulmonary Section of the American Physical Therapy Association, serving on the Research and Legislative Committees. She serves on the editorial boards for the Cardiopulmonary Physical Therapy Journal and for the National Kidney Foundation Transplant Chronicle. Dr Wells maintains her certification in Athletic Training and has served as the team trainer for Team Pittsburgh at the National Kidney Foundation Transplant Games since 1999.
