Research Interests

My primary interest is immunomodulation in head and neck cancer. In our lab, we have evaluated and elucidated the mechanism of the glycoprotein lactoferrin on head and neck cancer. Specifically, we have found that lactoferrin inhibits head and neck cancer by in a T-cell dependent mechanism. We are hoping to bring this compound into clinical trials in the near future. We have recently opened a phase I clinical trial evaluating autologous dendritic cell vaccines in advanced head and neck cancer.
 
Our second area of research is sinusitis. We are evaluating the effects of tobacco smoke exposure on the severity of sinusitis and looking at ways to modulate the immune system to treat patients with chronic sinusitis using co-stimulatory molecules.
