Personal History

Ellen Wruble Hakim, PT, DScPT, MS, CWS, FCCWS is Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science. Dr. Hakim graduated with a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Ithaca College in 1994 and was awarded a Doctor of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Maryland in 2003. Dr. Hakim joined the Department as an adjunct faculty member in 1997 and took a full-time appointment in 1999. Aside from holding primary teaching responsibility in the areas of oncology, acute care, pharmacology and wound care, Dr. Hakim currently serves as Co-Director of the Entry-Level DPT Program and oversees the didactic curriculum. She also serves as Chair of Academic Advancement and Policy. Professionally, Dr. Hakim is active within the Acute Care Section of the American Physical Therapy Association, serving as Chair of the Competency Development Task Force. Dr. Hakim is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Wound Management, wherein she is credentialed as a clinical wound specialist, and is a Fellow in the College of Certified Wound Specialists.
