Personal HistoryDr. Rutzen is a leading laser vision correction surgeon and instructor, having trained with pioneers in the field and performed early research studies on the excimer laser to treat focusing errors. He received his medical degree in 1989 from Cornell University, where he received honors in research for early work in refractive surgery. This was followed by an internship at Harvard University's Mt. Auburn Hospital, residency at Tufts University and fellowships in cornea and uveitis, as well as refractive surgery. Most recently Dr. Rutzen was recognized in Baltimore Magazine's "Top Docs" issue as one of Baltimore's leading ophthalmologists. More than just an experienced surgeon, as associate professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Dr. Rutzen teaches laser vision correction to residents and other ophthalmologists.
