Personal History:

Dr. Feranil recently joined the Department of Medicine, University of Maryland School of Medicine as a Research Associate. Before his current appointment, he worked in the same capacity at the Children’s Research Institute, Children’s National Medical Center in Washington DC. In the Philippines, he worked in various capacities in both the corporate world and the academia. He has vast experience working with many animal species primarily looking at ovarian function and female infertility, which has significance to both human and animal health. Expanding his research interest to the genetic basis of hypertension and salt sensitivity provided Dr. Feranil the chance to help in the conceptualization and development of innovative in vivo methodologies to further understand kidney function. He helps in the on-going validation of a newly developed acute gene silencing technique that involves gene-specific siRNA infusion into the subcapsular space of the kidney. This novel technique offers the advantage of a localized and continuous gene silencing in one or both kidneys and, more importantly, precludes the development of compensatory mechanisms that may be seen in classical knockout mouse models.
