Biosketch

Dr. Banerjee’s research program focuses on developing mechanism-based therapeutics for cancer using molecular, biochemical, and advanced three-dimensional model systems. Her work has established important roles for unfolded protein response and endoplasmic reticulum stress (ER) stress pathways in cancer cell death, identified the FoxM1-RASSF1A axis as a therapeutic target in metastatic colon cancer, and supported studies of Wnt/β-catenin signaling in tumor progression and therapeutic response.
Recently, Dr. Banerjee has expanded her focus to pediatric brain tumors, especially treatments for medulloblastoma. She is currently testing VNPP433-3β in preclinical studies for medulloblastoma and exploring signaling pathways, such as those linked to β-catenin, non-coding epigenetic mechanisms, and nanobiomedicine-based methods that could lead to better treatments for this devastating pediatric malignancy.

Research Interests

Dr. Banerjee’s research program is centered on defining the molecular mechanisms that drive cancer progression, stemness, and therapeutic resistance and on translating these insights into new treatment strategies for aggressive malignancies. Her laboratory employs cancer cells, spheroids, and patient-derived organoids to investigate pathway-specific therapeutic responses in metastatic colon cancer and medulloblastoma. Major research interests include unfolded protein response/endoplasmic reticulum stress signaling, cell-cycle control, DNA repair pathways, mitochondrial ribosomal proteins, and Wnt/beta-catenin-associated signaling. In parallel, her group uses RNA-seq and microarray-based profiling to identify differentially regulated pathways, validates these findings experimentally, and advances the development of biomarker panels for translational application. Current studies include the preclinical evaluation of novel medulloblastoma therapies, including VNPP-433.3β.
