Biosketch

Dr. Jason W. Custer grew up in Catonsville, Maryland and works clinically in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. He is the Division head of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine and the Medical Director of the Pediatric ICU.  After graduating from Duke University he returned home to Baltimore for medical school at the University of Maryland.  He then completed residency and fellowship at Johns Hopkins and returned to the University of Maryland as a faculty member in 2010. His research interests include expert and team cognition as well as PICU outcomes.  He has taken on a leadership role in patient safety and quality improvement in the department of pediatrics and the hospital. He has been the Director of Patient Safety at the University of Maryland Medical Center Downtown Campus since 2018. He currently lives in Ellicott City with his wife and 3 daughters.
