Dr. Susan Kesmodel is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of General & Oncologic Surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. She specializes in the treatment of breast diseases and high risk skin malignancies including melanoma, merkel cell carcinoma and squamous and basal cell carcinomas. Her clinical interests include nipple-sparing mastectomy, oncoplastic breast surgery, prophylactic mastectomy, and sentinel lymph node biopsy for breast cancer and skin cancer.
Dr. Kesmodel received her Medical Degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where she also completed a residency and an internship in General Surgery. Subsequently, she completed a fellowship in Surgical Oncology at the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Kesmodel’s research interests are in the use of neoadjuvant endocrine therapy for breast cancer patients. Dr. Kesmodel is a member of several national committees focusing on the development of clinical trials. In 2012, Dr. Kesmodel was named as a "Top Doc" for Breast Surgery by Baltimore Magazine.
