UM SOM: Department of Endocrinology
Research
Research funding to the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Nutrition has grown substantially from peer-reviewed sources including NIH, the American Diabetes Association, the American Heart Association, and the pharmaceutical-biotechnology industry.
An important characteristic of the Division's success has been the development of multidisciplinary research teams for basic and translational research. For example, faculty with expertise in clinical investigation, molecular genetics, genetic epidemiology, statistical genetics, and bioinformatics work together on genetic studies of complex diseases in the Old Order Amish.
The major thrust of the Division's research program is in diabetes, metabolic syndrome, adipose biology, hypertension, and osteoporosis.
