Mrs. Parsons is an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and serves as Program Director in the Department of Medical and Research Technology. She received her A.S and B.S. degrees in Medical Technology from Ann Maria College in Paxton, Massachusetts, her Master of Science degree from the University of Connecticut at Storrs in Allied Health Education and her Specialist in Blood Banking Certificate from the New England Deaconess Hospital in Boston. Mrs. Parsons first joined the Department in 1994 and has worked in full-time and adjunct capacities until recently joining the faculty for a full-time commitment in August 2001. Her primary teaching responsibilities lie in Blood Banking and Transfusion Medicine. She is the course coordinator for the Immunohematology, Professional Development and Laboratory Management courses. She is a contributor to two major textbooks: Clinical Hematology and Fundamentals of Hemostasis, and Modern Blood Banking and Transfusion Practices as well as a co-author of a computer based tutorial, Problem Solving in Blood Banking. Mrs. Parsons is an active member of the American Association of Blood Banks, currently serving as a member of the Committee of Accreditation for Specialty in Blood Bank programs. With interests in curriculum design and delivery, she is working on a graduate certificate in Internet Instruction and Multimedia Tools at Johns Hopkins School of Continuing studies.
