The Center for Health Disparities held an inaugural Public Health Institute “Fostering Trust in Clinical and Community-Based Research: A Key Strategy for Improving Public Health and Addressing Health Disparities” on November 15, 2005 at Westminster Hall on the campus of the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Attended by over 150 government officials, policy leaders, prominent business and academic leaders and community members, the one day institute provided an opportunity to reinforce the importance of building mutually beneficial and sustainable community-academic partnerships to reduce the burden of healthcare disparities David Satcher, MD, PhD, Interim President Morehouse School of Medicine and 16th Surgeon General of the United States and Yvonne T. Maddox PhD, Deputy Director of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, National Institutes of Health were keynote speakers.
