The University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM ) held its fifth annual Celebrating Diversity reception and dinner on Saturday, February 4, 2012. The event was attended by over 200 guests, who gathered to honor the strides made in diversity at the School of Medicine and to raise money for the Dean Emeritus Donald E. Wilson Endowed Scholarship fund and other UMSOM diversity scholarships that provide financial assistance to minority students.

Donors Dine on Behalf of the University of Maryland School of Medicine's Center for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine
On Sunday, September 18, 2011, more than 130 guests gathered at the new Rooftop Olive Room restaurant at the Inn at the Black Olive in downtown Baltimore to enjoy a sold-out evening of fine food and networking. Proceeds from ticket sales and the silent & live auctions at the event will support stem cell research at the University of Maryland School of Medicine's Center for Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine.

University of Maryland Medical Center Launches Genetic Testing Program for Cardiac Stent Patients
Patients with coronary artery disease who undergo treatment at the University of Maryland Medical Center now can receive long-term therapy based on information found in their genes. As part of a new personalized medicine initiative, the medical center is offering genetic testing to help doctors determine which medication a patient should take after a stenting procedure in order to prevent blood clots that could lead to serious -- and potentially fatal -- heart attacks and strokes.

New Global Study Pinpoints Main Causes of Childhood Diarrheal Diseases, Suggests Effective Solutions
A new international study published in The Lancet provides the clearest picture yet of the impact and most common causes of diarrheal diseases, the second leading killer of young children globally, after pneumonia. The study's principal investigator is Dr. Myron Levine, Director of the School of Medicine's Center for Vaccine Development.
