Giving Opportunities

All gifts are an investment in the University of Maryland School of Medicine. There are several ways to make a contribution – explore the option that is best for you.

Pledges

A pledge commitment allows you to plan a personal giving program that is both convenient and tax-wise. A pledge may also enable you to consider a more significant gift than would have otherwise been possible. Terms for payment on pledges are flexible and can be made over a five-year period.

For more information on making a pledge to support an area that is meaningful to you, contact us at 410-706-8503.

Monthly Giving

You can sign up for monthly credit card payments to spread your gift out over the year. You choose the amount per month and the number of months in a way that works best for you. Please call Traci Morgan at 410-706-6877 or send an e-mail to tmorgan@som.umaryland.edu for information on setting up a recurring giving plan.

Tribute and Memorial Gifts

Honoring or remembering a family member, friend, colleague, classmate, doctor, or faculty member with a gift is a touching way to pay tribute to that person while advancing the School of Medicine's educational, research and clinical missions in significant ways.

If you wish to make a gift in honor or memory of someone, make your check payable to UMBF, Inc. and:

  • On the subject line of the check, write the name of the individual to be honored or memorialized
  • Specify the fund, if known, or designation for your gift (i.e. Grossman Scholarship, Cancer Center Research, Multiple Myeloma, etc.)
  • Include name and address of the individual or bereaved family member to whom you would like an acknowledgment card sent

Endowments

Gifts of all kinds may be designated as a long-term investment through an endowment. Once established, an endowed fund is a dependable and perpetual source of support, as the principal is invested and only a portion of the earnings is spent annually.

Endowed gifts create a permanent legacy for purposes such as scholarships to help students fulfill their dreams to pursue a medical career, or an endowed faculty position to recruit and retain the greatest minds in medicine to teach, discover and innovate.

For more information on establishing an endowment to support an area that is meaningful to you, contact us at 410-706-8503.

Planned Gifts

In certain instances, it may be preferable from an estate, financial, and tax planning perspective to consider long-term gift planning as the best way to make a gift. This can be accomplished through various gift instruments, such as charitable gift annuities, charitable lead trusts, charitable remainder trusts, IRA assets, real estate, and bequests. Learn more >
