Department of Dermatology physicians evaluate complex skin disorders including eczema, psoriasis, acne, pigmentary disorders and allergies and cancers of the skin; oversees the diagnosis of skin biopsies and the evaluation and management of malignant melanoma; and provide a comprehensive assessment and treatment of stings and bites. The department serves as a regional center for outpatient and inpatient care for those with complex cutaneous diseases.

The Department of Dermatology specializes in General Dermatology, Pediatric Dermatology, Dermatopathology, Immunologic Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery. Services include darkfield examination for syphilis, immunofluorescent examinations of skin, histopathologic diagnosis of skin biopsies, electron microscopy of skin biopsies and photochemotherapy.

The Pigmented Lesion Clinic provides a multidisciplinary program for diagnosis and treatment of melanoma and follows those at high risk for the disease. The Sting and Bite Program uses an integrated approach to identify specimens, examine patients, conducts appropriate immunological tests, treats wounds and identifies preventive therapy for patients with stings and bites.
