What is C.H.A.M.P.?
C.H.A.M.P. (Church/Community Health Awareness & Monitoring Program) is a community based health education and prevention program focusing primarily on cardiovascular disease risk factors.
Its mission is to place behavior change strategies in the hands of people who can motivate and assist one another to adopt healthier lifestyles and become more self-reliant.
How can C.H.A.M.P help?
The leading treatable risk factors for cardiovascular disease include hypertension (high blood pressure), high blood cholesterol, smoking, diabetes, and obesity. Additionally, arthritis is reported as one of the leading causes of disability ahead of other illnesses such as heart disease and diabetes. Through proper knowledge, skills, and support these diseases can be better managed and/or prevented. C.H.A.M.P. offers a variety of health education classes at convenient locations throughout Baltimore City.
How does C.H.A.M.P work?
Community and church volunteers are trained and certified to provide screening, referrals, monitoring and, most importantly, culturally sensitive health education to members of our community. With this large force of volunteers, many people in our community can be reached and made aware of things they can do to effectively self-manage cardiovascular disease and arthritis.
