Student & Employee Health Services
Students of the School of Medicine can receive health care at University Family Medicine Associates, 29 S. Paca Street. The office is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday and Friday 8:30 to 4:30 p.m. Patients are preferably seen by appointment (410-328-6645). Patients may be seen on a walk-in basis, realizing that preference is given to those who have a previously scheduled appointment.
Student and Employee Health is staffed by Faculty in the department of Family and Community Medicine and Family Medicine residents. Students who may feel uncomfortable seeing a provider who may also serve as their instructor may call the director of Student Health, Kevin Ferentz, M.D. at 410-328-5012 to discuss available options.
The students' health fee entitles them to the services of Student and Employee Health (the costs of any consultations are paid by the student). A wide range of services is offered, including minor surgery. Birth control pills are available at a reduced cost for students receiving their GYN care through Student and Employee Health.
Coverage is provided 24-hours a day, 365-days a year, by the faculty of the Department of Family & Community Medicine. A doctor can be reached after hours and on weekends by calling (410) 328-8792. Arrangements can be made with the doctor on-call if you need to be seen after hours. If you have a true emergency, go directly to the emergency room.
UMB requires all students to have health insurance with certain minimum benefits. An excellent policy is available through UMB. At registration, all full-time students must either purchase the UMB policy or waive it by showing proof of comparable coverage. The UMB policy waiver deadline is September 15. If proof of comparable insurance is not received at the Finance Office, lower level, 29 S. Paca Street, by that date, the UMB policy must be purchased for that semester. Proof of comparable insurance must be shown each year, even if the UMB policy had been waived in the past.
