Supporting the Next Generation of
Clinical Research Scholars
The Multidisciplinary Clinical Research Career Development Program (MCRCDP),
funded by the NIH Roadmap Initiative, supports the early career development of
Clinical Research Scholars in all types of clinical research, including
patient-oriented research, translational research, small and large-scale
clinical investigation and trials and epidemiologic studies. It will prepare
scientists from a broad range of disciplines, specialties and subspecialties
for independent careers in clinical research.
The program brings together the collaborative efforts of the University of Maryland School of Medicine, the Dental, Pharmacy and Nursing Schools, the University of
Maryland Institute for Human Virology, and The
Institute for Genome Sciences. Every Scholar will have the opportunity to
pursue educational offerings
pertaining to best practices in clinical
research, research ethics and regulations; working in multidisciplinary teams;
and management and leadership skills.
The University of Maryland, Baltimore provides a large number of experienced
well-funded primary and secondary mentors engaged in a broad range of
disciplines, along with the strength of its existing K30 Clinical Research
Curriculum for Scholars’ didactic training. The Program receives robust
institutional support from UMB and the University of Maryland
General Clinical Research Center for the conduct of Scholars’
projects.
Within the context of diverse scientific and investigational disciplines, the Program instructs Scholars in the development and coordination of a multidisciplinary research team.
