SCIENTIFIC LEADERSHIP & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SYMPOSIUM FOR BASIC SCIENCE AND TRNASLATIONAL RESEARCHERS
This symposium supports UMB junior faculty and postdoctoral fellows’ efforts to develop- and maintain- a productive research program. Participants will learn the principles of scientific leadership from successful researchers. Topics include: 1) Starting Your Lab; 2) Building an effective research team and picking the “right” personnel for your lab; 3) Funding Your Research; 4) The "Management" Aspects of Running a Lab; 5) Mentoring and Being Mentored.

This symposium supports UMB clinical research faculty and trainees’ efforts to develop- and maintain- a productive research program. Participants learn the principles of scientific leadership from successful clinician researchers. Topics include: 1) Leading Your Team; 2) Networking and Collaborations; 3) Mentoring: The Transition from Mentee to Mentor; 4) Funding Clinical Research; and 5) Balancing Research, Practice and Personal Life.
TRANSITIONING TO INDEPENDENCE: A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SYMPOSIUM ON LEADERSHIP FOR UMB "K" AWARDEES
This symposium focuses on the necessary skills for launching an independent clinical and translational research career. The purpose of this symposium is to support the transition of UMB “K” recipients to independence (e.g. attainment of an R01).
NOTE: While this symposium is intended for current UMB (K) scholars, UMB clinical scholars, as well as UMB postdocs who may be considering applying for a K award, are welcome to attend.
