ANES 541: Anesthesia Elective at the Baltimore Veterans Adminstration Medical Center

Description and Goals

This is a four-week elective in the 4th year of medical school offering:

  • Active, "hands-on", clinical participation, to provide broad insight into the practice of anesthesiology and the background and relevancy to virtually all aspects of patient care.
  • Demonstration of the functions of this specialty in preoperative evaluation, intraoperative management and post anesthesia care as well as consultation services in pain management and respiratory care.
  • The opportunity to develop and cultivate an understanding of the significance and application of the basic sciences in this branch of medical practice.
  • The time devoted to each aspect of the specialty will be individualized to meet the career goals of each student.
