Department of Anesthesiology
University of Maryland School of Medicine

Our department is growing and we are seeking energetic and dedicated individuals at all ranks to join our team. Responsibilities include clinical care and teaching of students, residents, fellows and other professionals.  Time is available for academic, scholarly and administrative activities. Numerous opportunities exist for clinical, translational, and basic research. The department offers competitive compensation, excellent benefits, and a generous retirement plan. Candidates must be board eligible for all positions and fellowship-trained for Critical Care, CT and Pediatric Anesthesia.

Positions are available in the following areas:

 

Director, Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology 

The successful candidate will be certified in echocardiography and qualify for appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level. This individual will lead a busy clinical service, develop a division-wide research focus and mentor and direct an expanding group of 7 faculty and 2 fellows (ACGME-approved subspecialty fellowship). 

Critical Care Anesthesiology 

We manage patients in both the Surgical Intensive Care and Neuro/Neurosurgical Intensive Care Units. The Department has an ACGME-approved Critical Care fellowship training program, including a research track with the NIH.

Multi Specialty Anesthesiology

Anesthesiologists are needed for a variety of clinical settings in our tertiary care teaching hospital including the GOR, L & D, a newly opened ambulatory and endoscopy unit and to join our liver transplantation team.

Kernan Anesthesiology

We have opportunities for those interested in working in a community orthopedics hospital where over 2000, ultrasound –guided, regional anesthetics are performed per year.

Pediatric Anesthesiology

Pediatric anesthesiologists are needed to staff our modern, child-friendly surgical practice.  We cover operating room and non-operating room diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for healthy as well as high-risk pediatric patients, including cardiovascular interventions. 

Trauma Anesthesiology

The R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center is part of the University of Maryland Medical Center, is the nation’s busiest trauma hospital and the leading center worldwide for trauma-related research. Faculty are engaged in assessment and resuscitation of trauma patients including critical care and acute pain management. Fellowship training in Critical Care, Cardiac Anesthesia, or Pain Medicine is preferred but not necessary.
