Holiday Benefit Projects
The Department of Anesthesiology has sponsored an annual holiday benefit project since December 2000. The project began by providing presents of toys, clothing, food and gift certificates to three families. It has since expanded to adopting entire first grade classes at various city public schools, ranging in size from 34-70 students and their teachers.
The event has also grown to include Aramark, who provides individual lunches on the day of gift presentation; the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority at Bowie State University, who has contributed time and gifts; and Willow Tree Embroidery, who provided shirts and caps with the schools’ logos. Since 2000, a total of $11,320 has been donated and over 311 children and teachers have benefited. Those who have participated in this endeavor are unanimous in their expressions of JOY!
