Community Service
University of Maryland medical students working at the annual community health fair in Waverly, MD.

Faculty, staff and students at the University of Maryland School of Medicine have long-standing relationships with communities all over the state of Maryland. Over 250,000 hours of community service are logged annually with over 400 organizations. The centerpieces of the School of Medicine’s commitment to community are two complex statewide networks that target at-risk populations with a variety of education, research, screening and treatment approaches. Also in place is a telemedicine network that facilitates consultations in real-time audio and video with medical professionals at the School of Medicine in Baltimore and physicians, caregivers and patients in western Maryland and on the Eastern Shore.
