Other Tobacco Related Diseases (OTRD) Research Projects

The mission of the "Other Tobacco Related Diseases (OTRD) Research" grant is to support the state's efforts to reduce morbidity and mortality through research in three areas:

  1. Health Services Research;
  2. Clinical Research and
  3. Translational Research.

This is consistent with the University of Maryland's mission of excellence in biomedical, basic, and clinical research. OTRD is a ten-year grant sponsored through the State of Maryland's Cigarette Restitution Fund. Through OTRD, the University of Maryland supports the State of Maryland's efforts to reduce death and disability due to tobacco related diseases other than cancer, namely: cardiovascular disease and stroke, peripheral vascular disease, chronic pulmonary disease, and infant mortality, through health services, clinical and translational research in collaboration with the Maryland Statewide Health Network programs.
