Training - EPIC and Powerchart

Account Request Form 

**FRCT Students ONLY: Your mentor must sign off on the account request form prior to you submitting it to the Office of Student Research to be processed. 

 All other students: OSA must process your account request form. After completing the form, please email form to studentaffairs@som.umaryland.edu or fax to 410-706-8311.  

EPIC Training

 To access the Medical Student Online Training Course (EPIC) (on and off campus): 

  1. Open the Internet Explorer.
  2. Click this link (EPIC Training) or type: http://www.viewletcentral.com/vc/viewlet/590023048/ 

 The course consists of 4 training modules, a course evaluation and a competency. You must pass the competency with a score of 80% or above. You will not receive an e-mail confirmation that you passed, the last screen will indicate if you received an 80% or above. If you do not pass, you may retake the course and view the training modules again if needed. 

Troubleshooting Tips for Online Modules:

  • If you are unable to open the modules, close the module and try again.
  • If you are using IE 9 or 10 and Windows 8: Click the Tools menu, select Compatibility View Setting, add the website address.
  • If you are using IE 8 or below, no compatibility update is applicable.
  • The following operating systems and browsers are not supported by the University of Maryland Medical System: Mac OS X, Google Chrome, Firefox

Powerchart Training

To access the Powerchart Training (on and off campus):

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Click this link: Powerchart Training or type: http://www.umm.edu/computertraining 
  3. Type in the Username: ummsdev and Password: paca 
  4. Under What’s Inside... click University of MD Medical Center 
  5. Click the link for your job role and view the modules listed.
  6. Complete and pass the Competency.

A passing score is 80% or above.You may re-take the Competency, if necessary.  A certificate of completion will be sent to the email address you provide after passing the exam.

  • Account Request Form for Powerchart Access: OSA must process your account request form. After completing the form, please email form to studentaffairs@som.umaryland.edu or fax to 410-706-8311.
  • Contact the Help Desk with any issues accessing the modules: Help Desk: 410-328-HELP (4357) or Helpdesk@umm.edu 
  • If you do not receive your Cerner login credentials in 3 days, or if you have any issues with accessing your account, contact the Helpdesk at Helpdesk@umm.edu or 410-328-HELP (4357).
Troubleshooting Tips for Online Modules:
  • Pop-up Blockers must be turned OFF while completing the course.
  • If you are using IE 9 or 10 and Windows 8: Click the “Tools” menu, select “Compatibility View Setting”, and add the website address. (If you are using IE 8 or below, no compatibility update is applicable.)

  • If the module freezes on a slide, click the forward button to move to the next slide to override the glitch. 
  • If the module freezes on a slide and you cannot go back or forward, close the module’s window and restart the same module, then click the forward button until you locate the slide where you were last working.
  • If your computer freezes, shut down and restart the computer.
