James McNamee, PhD, Associate Dean for Information Services and CIO, HIPAA Privacy Officer will discuss HIPAA requirements for research at the University of Maryland, including waivers.  The use and disclosure differences between clinical care and research information will also be discussed.

Les Katzel, MD, PhD, Associate Professor, Medical Gerontology; Chair, Research and Development Committee VAMHCS will present Key issues the UMB community needs to know to prepare for the AAHRPP site visit June 23-25, 2008. Site visitors will interview investigators, research personnel and UMB leaders to assess knowledge and application of UMB HRPP policies and procedures, ethical standards, federal regulations and GCP.
