CICERO is Here !
In response to your feedback about BRAAN and its limitations, we are bringing you a new electronic protocol management system called CICERO. This system was selected after extensive evaluation of 8 systems by key individuals and groups in the UMB research organization. It is the best product currently on the market and is in use by a variety of organizations. The new system is quite different from BRAAN. While the technology of CICERO is universal, it is being developed internally to meet the specific needs of the UMB research community. The system is flexible and can be modified and expanded as needs change
Conversion Process to CICERO
*No NEW protocols can be submitted in BRAAN after your department/division Go Live date
*Submit all new protocols in CICERO moving forward
*Submit continuing reviews in CICERO 90 days from their BRAAN expiration date
*Submit modifications and reportable events in BRAAN until that study has been converted into CICERO
*BRAAN website will be accessible to view and print documents

AAHRPP Re-Accreditation of the UMB HRPP
The UMB Human Research Protections Program (HRPP) completed the re-accreditation site visit for the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protections Programs (AAHRPP) June 23, 24, & 25, 2008. The site visit included interviews with investigators, research personnel, IRB members, HRPO staff and UMB organizational leaders and HRPP representatives.
Overall, the site visit team was very impressed with the UMB Human Research Protections Program. We will receive a site visit report within 30 days and will submit our response 30 days after that, approximately August 25, 2008. It will be reviewed at the AAHRPP Council meeting in December 2008. We will notify you and other members of the UMB research community as soon as we learn the outcome.
The UMB HRPP is one of 104 research organizations that have earned this distinguished accreditation status. It is the commitment and effort of every member of the UMB research community to sustaining a culture of conscience that ensures the highest levels of protections and advocacy for research participants.
