Ways of Giving

Gifts to the University of Maryland School of Medicine may be made with many kinds of assets in varied forms. Gifts may be made outright or pledged over a five-year period.

Cash
• Most generous federal income tax deduction available
• Deduction can be up to 50 percent of adjusted income
• Can be deducted in the year the gift is made with excess carried forward for up to five additional years

Marketable Securities
• Deductible at full fair market value, if owned for more than one year
• No capital gains tax imposed
• Deductible up to 30 percent of adjusted gross income in the year the gift of the gift, with any excess carried forward for the next five years

Planned Gifts
Over the years, donors have discovered that planned gifts complement their personal financial planning, while enabling them to make substantial gifts to the University of Maryland School of Medicine through:
